account reverted to old username & password

Hi Here's what happened: I suddenly found about two weeks ago, that I couldn't log into my mendeley account. Here's the history: I changed my username and password about 3 months ago. I used mendeley web and desktop continuously since then. When I couldn't log in to my web account a couple of weeks ago, I tried to change my password in the usual way - it didn't allow me to. Since I couldn't get in to my account, I couldn't contact mendeley. I posted an FB comment on the Mendeley page - NO RESPONSE. I then contacted the mendeley support desk via email and the person who responded tried to help me by changing the password on my behalf (THANK YOU) but I still couldn't log in. I then saw that my Mendeley desktop had my very first username and signed out of it, trying to use the later passwords, only to realise it wouldn't let me log in again either. I then used my first username and first password, and could log in. My questions are: 1) how and why did my account revert to the very first username and password? 2) How do users who have been locked out of the system get help from Mendeley if we can't contact/email without logging into the account? 3) Is there a way to backup my data so that I don't lose it in such a situation?
